Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is transmitted to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message may be retained so we can respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Your device's IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Time spent on viewed pages
- The referring site, when one is reported
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic patterns, popular pages, and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical and query-routing data is used only for the following operational purposes:
- Maintaining site availability, speed, and security
- Routing a search query to the selected partner
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which pages are useful to visitors
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
DeKalb County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official routes through the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, the courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through its tool. We do not control those terms, so review them before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the DeKalb County government, Tennessee agencies, courts, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.
Some advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across sites for targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site use and performance
- Search partners processing a query you submit
- Advertising networks placing ads on the pages
- Government or law enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such data was provided, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law that applies where you live. Tennessee's Public Records Act, principally T.C.A. §§10-7-503 and 10-7-504, governs access to and confidentiality of records held by public agencies. T.C.A. §38-6-120 supplies the state criminal-history dissemination framework used by TBI through TORIS. Neither law turns this private site into a public-records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you can:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion where the law permits it
- Object to or opt out of certain processing when applicable
